Logistop organised the Innovation Lab on Certificados de Ahorro Energético (CAE) for the logistics sector.
On 12 September, Logistop organised the Innovation Lab Certificados de Ahorro Energético (CAE) for logistics companies, analysing this key instrument for energy efficiency. The EECs, developed by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, offer companies the possibility of obtaining and selling certifications for their savings in final energy consumed, thereby promoting the reduction of carbon emissions.
During the introduction of the session, Juan Carlos de Pablo Olaiz, Head of Innovation of Logistop’s Decarbonisation and sustainability applied to the logistics chain working group, highlighted the opportunity that this system represents for the logistics sector, giving rise to projects that, due to their lower visibility or difficult identification, have been left behind.
For his part, Guillermo López Alonso, Technical Advisor of the Sub-Directorate General for Energy Efficiency of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, in addition to presenting the CAE system, highlighted the potential for growth, its flexibility and the impact it can have on projects, and is currently working on the robustness of this system. Among the advantages of this system (knowledge of estimated savings, incentive proportional to savings, knowledge of return on investment, breadth of technological approach, flexibility in operations) Guillermo emphasised the creation of a technological culture.
In the panel discussion that followed, María Cubillo, Technical Managing Partner of SinCeO2, showed the attendees examples of various real actions that have been eligible for CAEs, sharing a tool that allows the analysis of the measures to be adopted to increase energy efficiency.
Ginés Ángel García López, President of the Association of Energy Efficiency Companies (A3E), pointed out that the main objective is to raise awareness of this incentive mechanism, which is so different from traditional subsidies, offering an agile, less bureaucratic and more flexible solution for companies.
Finaly, Juan Manuel García Sánchez, Energy Manager at AENOR, highlighted that the biggest problem they have to face is the existing bottleneck caused by the lack of structuring in the files, which makes verification difficult. And he pointed out, like Ginés, the great challenge, the importance of being able to ‘evangelise’, mainly on the voluntary offer side (i.e. the owner/investor in the execution of savings), so that they are aware that this way of monetising an effort they are making exists.
With this session we have made logistics companies aware of the opportunities offered by the CAE and how they can benefit from this innovative energy saving system. As highlighted by our Managing Director, Tomás de la Vega, rom Logistop we will identify the needs of those present to analyse how and in what way they can be structured to develop short-term projects, with continuity in the medium and long term.
